Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi officially changes name

– Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has officially changed his name 

– The midfielder does not like when his name is pronounced wrong 

John Obi Mikel has officially changed his name because “the Nigerian midfielder has finally had enough of people getting his ACTUAL NAME wrong”, the Mirror reports

Mikel Obi, or Mikel has officially changed his name to Mikel John Obi.

The midfielder was not supposed to be called ‘Mikel’. The Nigerian was born John Michael Nchekwube Obinna but the name Mikel became a thing when the Nigerian FA mistakenly used Mikel instead of Michael on his submission form for the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championships.

Mikel liked the mistake and kept the name and he has been called John Obi Mikel ever since he joined Chelsea in 2006.

To stop the confusion the midfielder has  officially changed his name to… Mikel John Obi.
